Luke Donald misses the chance to make it to the Honda Classic Field
Luke Donald is not in the field of the Honda Classic due to his early exit from the Accenture Match Play Championship.
The 34-year-old English professional golfer lost a golden chance to play at the amazing tournament, staged by Professional Golf Association at PGA National Champion Course, Palm Beach Gardens in Florida.
He was eliminated by Ernie Els in the first round. Els competed well against the current world No. 1 and defeated him by a 1-point lead.
Despite completing the last season on a promising note, Donald is facing tough times in the current season. He is not giving his best, nor is he continuing with his successful achievements of 2011.
The Accenture Match Play Championship was finished with amazing results on the scoreboard. Hunter Mahan won the title by defeating the world No. 2, Rory McIlroy.
Mahan and McIlroy were tremendous and competed well throughout the five-day tournament. Both players kept their rivals at a distance right from the start of the tournament.
However, Donald lost the event, which has eliminated his chance to perform at the upcoming Honda Classic.
Even without Donald in the field, the tournament is still competitive due to the other leading players. There are several other big faces that will make the event more attractive and interesting.
Top-ranked golfers confirmed for the Honda Classic include Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Lee Westwood, Padraig Harrington, Keegan Bradley, Charl Schwartzel, Rory Sabbatini, Ernie Els and legendary Graeme McDowell.
The Honda Classic Chief, Ken Kennerly said, "It's an exciting time in the evolution of this event. This is the vision that we've had for the past six years, to stage an event that captivates the community".
Donald is not in high spirits these days. Since January, he has been unable to record some impressive finishes.
He played four tournaments this year on the European Tour and PGA, but did not finish any in the top 25.
He is facing tough challenges from the young star McIlroy. McIlroy is hoping to be the world No. 1 and also doing a great job in most of the tournaments this season.
Now, Donald has planned to be out of the field and some tournaments for a couple of days, so that he can practice and return to golf in full form.
"Go take a few days off and regroup," Donald told reporters before leaving Arizona. "It's a fickle game and sometimes it bites you".
The Honda Classic is scheduled to start from March 1 to 4, at the amazing Floridian site of PGA National Champion Course.
