Luke Donald off to a good start at the Deutsche Bank Championship
The world number two Luke Donald carded a four-under par 67 in the opening round of the Deutsche Bank Championship, and shared the 10th spot at TPC Boston in Norton, on Friday, August 31, 2012.
The winner of both the European and PGA Tour money lists recorded six birdies against two bogeys, to settle five strokes behind the leader, Seung-Yul Noh, who posted a bogey-free nine-under par 62.
Donald was among the early starters in the morning and believed that he was lucky to play under comparatively easier conditions. He expected the strong winds to blow in the afternoon.
“It looks like the wind is starting to pick up a little bit, so maybe getting off in the morning was a good start, a little bit more favorable maybe than the guys playing this afternoon,” he said.
While talking about the course conditions, he told that the greens were perfect and easy to play on.
“The conditions were nice. The greens are holding. The greens are pure here,” he explained. “You really can make some good putts, and I think that's part of my success here the last couple years is I feel comfortable on the greens and see the slopes and
hole my fair share”.
According to him, he could have done even better if he had avoided the three-putts on the 8th and 17th hole. “My only bogeys today were three-putts,” he said. “I'm not sure what happened there”.
Donald is currently enjoying a great form on the PGA Tour, as he recorded three top-10 finishes in the last four events that he played.
However, he lost the world number one spot after Rory McIlroy claimed his second major victory at the 2012 PGA Championship and surged to the top of the Official World Golf Rankings.
The Englishman tried to reclaim the top spot with a win at The Barclays. However, he only managed to grab a tied 10th spot on the leaderboard.
This week, he once again sights the top spot with the second PGA Tour victory of his 2012 campaign. Earlier this year, he won the Transitions Championship by defeating Bae Sang-Moon, Jim Furyk and Robert Garrigus in the playoffs.
