Luke Donald records a good finish at the Tour Championship
The former world number one Luke Donald carded a three-under par 67 in the final round of the Tour Championship, to share the third spot on the leaderboard, on Sunday, September 23, 2012.
Donald, the winner of both the money lists on the PGA Tour and the European Tour last year, started off his final round campaign with a five-stroke deficit behind the leaders, Justin Rose and Brandt Snedeker.
After recording par putts on each of the first two holes that he played, he bogeyed the third hole and stretched the distance with the leaders.
However, a couple of birdies on the fourth and the sixth hole took him back in contention. Afterwards, a bogey-birdie-bogey streak, starting from the eighth hole, ruined his chances of making it to the top.
The Englishman birdied three of the final six holes of the tournament. However, that was not enough to challenge the inform Snedeker, who carded a two-under par 68 for a 10-under par tournament score.
Despite missing the chance of recording a victory in one of the four PGA Tour Playoffs events, Donald was happy to contend and finish strongly at the East Lake Golf Club.
“It was a lot more solid play. I've just been really close, and it's nice to finally string a couple of good rounds together,” he said. “I came up a little bit short for this week, but it was a good effort”.
Donald now plans to focus only on the Ryder Cup, scheduled to be played from September 28 to 30, at the Medinah Country Club in Chicago.
He is among the top-rated players in the 12-man European Ryder Cup team that will contend against its counterpart, the American Ryder Cup team.
“I am looking forward to it. Obviously, one, it's the Ryder Cup, and some of my best moments in golf have been during that event and obviously being in Chicago the place I've lived for the last 15 years will be pretty special to just drive down the road
and play. Looking forward to the team looking good. It's going to be a tough battle,” he said.
