Luke Donald returning to Northern Trust Open in California
Luke Donald, who missed the cut last year at the Northern Trust Open, will be returning to Riviera Country Club to make his debut appearance in the Professional Golf Association Tour.
Donald, a 34-year-old English professional golf player, currently ranks at 1st according to the Official World Golf Ranking.
He was playing at the European Tour in January and now he is reaching California to play at the PGA.
He was unable to make the cut last year by scoring 68 and 79. This was his worst performance in the 2011 season. Later, he improved his skills and swing and was able to be on top throughout the year.
The changes he made to his work ethic became favourable for him and he remained the most successful golfer of the last season.
He played a total of 19 events at the PGA Tour and 13 at the European Tour in the last season.
Donald became the No. 1 golfer of the world by adding several victories and award titles at both the tours in 2011.
He won two titles at the PGA and mostly finished within the top 10, earning $6,683,214.
Similarly, he also won three titles at the European Tour and earned handsome sum of €5,323,400.
There are many other titles achieved by Donald in 2011. He was the European Tour Golfer of the Year, European Tour Race to Dubai winner, PGA Tour Player of the Year, PGA Player of the Year, Byron Nelson Award, Vardon Trophy winner and PGA Tour leading money
winner as well.
It was the most successful year for him. No one has ever won a planet of the titles and tournaments in one year.
However, the amazing player achieved these successes easily and created a history by displaying a brilliant performance.
When such a remarkable player is in the field of Northern Trust Open, the popularity of the tournament gets doubled.
Jerry West, the Executive Director of the tournament, is happy to see prominent faces in California.
“On the eve of the 2012 Northern Trust Open, we’re thrilled with the way our field has taken shape,” Jerry West said.
Australian Aaron Baddeley is the defending champion of the tournament. He scored a 12-under par last year and defeated Vijay Singh by two strokes. He is also in the field with many others and is expected to face tough strokes from Donald.
