Luke Donald sets the pace at the BMW PGA Championship

Luke Donald smashed a score of 7-under-par 64 in the first round of the €4,500,000-BMW PGA Championship, to take charge of the field that assembled on the par-71 Wentworth Golf Course in Surrey, England.
The Englishman teed off from the front and reeled four birdies to set his pace. His first accomplishment arrived at the par-5 fourth hole, when he hammered a crisp iron shot onto the left side of the fairway that left him one yard
away from the cup. The player walked towards the lie on the right side of the green and chipped a 21-foot long birdie putt to earn the maiden applause of the tournament.
The sound of clapping seemed to have set Donald's momentum and utilizing the speed in his swings, the winner of Accenture Match Play Championship clamped three more birdies and sealed the first half with a massive score of 4-under
par 31.
On his way towards the back, when the wind had started picking speed, the 33-year-old hurried onto the tenth tee and asked his caddie to pass him a mid-iron. With the direction of the wind facing towards the west, the veteran swung
his iron with sheer power and faded the ball towards the left side, carding the fifth birdie of the day.
However, things became a little tricky when it started drizzling. Donald aimed his tee shot towards the centre of the 12th fairway, but owing to the direction of the wind, the ball made its way into the hospitability
unit sitting on the far right side. The veteran jumped into the bunker to save the ball, but could not save the par, becoming a victim of the bogeyman.
Donald hammered three more birdies later in the day and wrapped the first round of the tournament in lead.
When asked to summarize the day, he said, "When I woke up this morning I thought anything under par would be a good score. It was tough conditions out there. The wind was swirling and there were rain showers. So to pretty much
have total control of the ball today doesn't happen very often in golf."
