Luke Donald starts off brilliantly at the DP World Tour Championship
Luke Donald has been in good form, leading up to the DP World Tour Championship, at Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai.
Donald is coming off from a victory in Japan, which helped him snatch the number second spot from Tiger Woods in the Official World Golf Rankings.
When Donald teed off, it looked as if the Luke Donald of 2011 was playing. The world number two shot a magnificent round of 7-under, 65, at the Jumeirah Golf Estate.
Donald, currently, leads the tournament by just a stroke. Following him is the current world number one Rory McIlroy.
"It was a nice, solid start," said the Englishman. "It was very tidy, Just a lot of solid golf. I gave myself a lot of opportunities”.
Luke was pretty sublime with his putting on Thursday. His assessment of the greens was magnificent throughout the day. Although it is not an easy task to put in the desert, but he made it look very easy.
The Englishman saved the pars on the first and the fourth hole beautifully by sinking 8-foot and 15-foot putts respectively.
"I'd love the challenge," Donald said about facing McIlroy on Sunday. "Rory is No. 1 in the world. And it will be fun for us. It will be fun for the fans and obviously fun for TV. It would be a great way to end the year".
It is a brilliant start for Donald at the DP World Tour Championship. He has the start which he needed, all he needs to make sure is that he shoots bogey free rounds.
On the other hand, Rory McIlroy was slow to get his score going. He scored just one birdie on the front nine but he shifted his gear on the back nine. The world number one carded five birdies on the back nine to complete his flawless round of 66.
"I got off to a bit of a slow start but felt I was hitting the ball well enough to give myself opportunities for birdies. I got it together on the back nine," McIlroy said.
Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer also started brightly, carding five-under on Thursday.
