Luke Donald still hopeful to win The Race to Dubai
Heading into the last of the four World Golf Championships of the year, the HSBC Champions, the former world number one Luke Donald is confident to improve his position in The Race to Dubai.
The tournament will be played at the Mission Hills Golf Club from November 1 to 4, 2012, featuring some of the prominent names from different parts of the world.
The event is co-sanctioned with the PGA Tour, European Tour and the Asian Tour, and is the only WGC held outside the United States.
Earlier in May, he successfully defended his title at the BMW PGA Championship and now plans to add another European Tour title to his resume, when he tees off in China.
Talking to the reporters in a pre-tournament press conference on Wednesday, he stated that the Mission Hills Golf Club is a great course to play on.
Therefore, he will try to utilize his past experience on the venue course and his recent form to outshine his opponents in the field.
Last week, at the BMW Masters, the Englishman finished third and is confident to keep the momentum going into this week’s event in Shenzhen.
“It was nice to put in four pretty solid rounds last week,” he said.
In addition to that, he also wishes to finish the 2012 European Tour season on a high note by registering a good position in The Race to Dubai.
Last year, he won the money list title after displaying consistent performances throughout the year.
This year, he has not been able to perform that well. However, he still holds the eighth spot in the money list and plans to minimize the distance with the leader Rory McIlroy, at the end of the week.
“Come in here, looking to improve a couple spots if possible. It's getting close to the end of the year and The Race to Dubai, and this is a big event with a strong field and looking forward to bringing some of that form from last week to this week,” he
said.
He added, “This is obviously a big event for golf, a big event in China and Asia, and I’m excited to be a part of it”.
