Luke Donald strongly defends his title at the Scottish Open
The top golfers in the world are going head to head on one of the most prestigious stages on the European Tour, the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open. The venue for the event is Castle Stuart Golf links. The four-day event, which started on 12th
of July, is supposed to end on the 15th of July.
The Scottish Open 2011 was won by the world number one in the golf ranking, Luke Donald. Last year the tournament had to be reduced to 54 holes, due to the unfriendly weather conditions.
Donald managed to end the tournament with a magnificent 19-under par. Back then, he had an easy win, as he was four strokes clear from the second position.
This year, Donald is looking to defend his title. He is going to try his best to bag the tournament two years in a row. He was able to manage a good first day.
The English professional golfer had a magnificent start. One can even call it the best start of the tournament yet. He scored four consecutive birdies starting from the first hole.
The four birdies were followed by two bogeys on the fifth and eighth hole. These made his score two-under par after the front nine.
Donald had an even better back nine. He managed to card three birdies on the twelfth, sixteenth and seventeenth hole. There were no eagles, bogeys or double bogeys. That made his score three-under par on the back nine.
Donald’s total score for the day became five-under par. He was able to complete the 7193 yards course in 67 shots.
The world number one finished the day tied at the 12th position with Anthony Wall, Martin Kaymer, S.S.P Chowrasia, Matthew Baldwin, Pablo Larrazabal and Oscar Floren.
After the first day, Donald said in an interview, “Usually I'm pretty happy with 67, but I'm five back already. But there were a lot of positives there after three weeks away from competition”.
Donald is five strokes away from the top position holder on the leaderboard, Francesco Molinari. Molinari ended his first day with a magnificent ten-under par.
Donald will have to give quite a consistent performance throughout to defend his title.
