Luke Donald struggling to improve his ranking
Luke Donald is struggling and making efforts to improve his form to compete well and to claim his ranking back by displaying an amazing performance at the Cadillac Championship.
He faced a defeat at the hands of the youngest Northern Irish professional, Rory McIlroy, and saw a dip in his world ranking.
Now he is aiming to compete for the top position at the World Golf Championship. The mega event will be played at the TPC Blue Monster at Doral Miami in Florida, from March 8 to 11.
All the golfers will be playing for the $8,500,000 purse, out of which $1,400,000 is the winner's share.
Donald's performance this year is not so impressive. He lost multiple tournaments since January. He started the current season at the European Tour and failed to achieve a higher position on the leaderboard.
Then in February, he played the Northern Trust Open and finished at the 56th position. Such a poor performance by the world’s No. 1 player was never expected.
Later, he lost all his hopes to maintain his top ranking at the Accenture Match Play Championship due to an early exit.
Since January, McIlroy has been competing against Donald amazingly. McIlroy played tremendous in the current season at both the European and the PGA Tours.
He secured the top-10 positions in all the events and, after winning the Honda Classic, he snatched the top spot from Donald.
Donald is facing tough times, but he is not accepting the loss and will be trying to claim back his glory at the world rankings.
"I am always working hard and looking forward to another week and trying to find a bit of form and get back in a position to win some tournaments," Donald said.
He continued, "It has been a slow start to the year, but it is not something I am overly concerned with. I feel like I am progressing".
After being involved in training sessions in February and March, he believes that he is improving. However, this claim can come to life at the upcoming WGC event at Doral Miami.
He stated, "I have been working on a few improvements to my swing and I have maybe not had the same intensity to my short game. My game has always been about working from the hole backwards".
He added, "I have been ramping up the work on my short game, putting, bunker play, and I hope that will start to show in my results".
This week is very important for the Englishman to regain his raking position. There are ample opportunities for Donald to display some amazing strokes and swing.
If he manages to score impressively, then he can seize his top position once again.
