Luke Donald surges into lead in the second round of Heritage Tournament - Golf News
Luke Donald smashed a score of six-under par, 66 in the second round of the US$5.7 million-the Heritage tournament to surge into lead. The 19th Professional Golf Association tour event is taking place at the Harbour Town
Golf Links in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina with a winner share of US$1,026,000.
The Englishman chose to tee off from the front and reeled seven birdies against one bogey to compose a score to that of a leader.
He birdied the first two holes to align his momentum with the requirement of the course and after achieving the desired level of comfort with the front nine-layouts, fired another birdie at the par-5, fifth to test his vigilance at
the par-71 course. After a gap of one green, the winner of Accenture Match Play Championship aimed a tee shot on the seventh green and managed to hit it in regulation with the help of a three-wood. Lost in the applause created by the spectators over the accurate
shot, Donald took his putter out of the bag and flicked a putt for the fourth birdie of the day.
Owing to the mounting confidence, the Englishman walked to the closing hole of front and without much analysis of the hole-type, hit a tee shot aiming towards the right side of the fairway and putted for a birdie.
The 33-year-old walked towards the back with the same exuberance and putted two more birdies after missing a par-putt at the opening hole. He capped the day as the leader with a margin of one stroke over the first round striker, Garrett
Willis.
Pleased at his improving game Donald said, “Solid day today. Off to a great start, again, birdying the first two holes gave me some good momentum. I played that front nine really well. The back nine is a little bit tougher, but, yeah,
again, I did a lot of good things today, drove it reasonably well. It was a solid day.”
He owed the improvement in his game to his win on the PGA Tour. He quoted, “Winning hopefully brings more winning. It gave me a boost of confidence.”
Donald will step into the third round as the leader, but will he remain adamant against the pressure and aim at securing another title on the PGA Tour.
