Luke Donald to play in 2011 JBWere Masters along with Ian Poulter and defending champion Stuart Appleby
World number one Luke Donald has committed his presence in the JBWere Masters, which will take place at the Victoria Golf Club from December 15-18 2011. The Professional Golf Association (PGA) Tour Australasian event is one of
the flagship tournaments on the tour.
The news regarding Donald's contention was confirmed by the Director of Golf IMG, David Rollo, who is the owner and the promoter for the tournament. Rollo revealed that the Englishman had agreed to come and play on the Sand belt
courses of Australia and was looking forward to test his game on the course for the first time.
Rollo stated, “The valued support of JBWere, the Victorian Government and our broadcast partners Channel Nine and FOX SPORTS has been fundamental to delivering the world’s best players to Melbourne over the past few years.”
Donald also spoke to the press regarding his participation in the event, “I have never played in Australia but I have heard so many great things about the sandbelt courses, the people there, and the country’s culture. I am really
looking forward to the trip and the experience.”
The 33-year-old pro is the second Englishman to hit the world number one spot in last nine months. The first one was Lee Westwood, who knocked off Tiger Woods on October 31st, 2010 to become the only English golfer to
stand tall in a span of five years.
Donald is known for his spectacular win at the World Golf Championships, Accenture Match Play Championship in February, and his heroic triumph at the PGA Championship, which took place at Wentworth in May. The two wins helped the
player take a long stride in the Official World Golf Rankings, FedEx standings and Race to Dubai rankings, where he is currently leading.
However, Donald won’t be the only top gun in the field, as he will face the defending champion, Stuart Appleby alongside world number 14 Ian Poulter.
Unlike Donald, Poulter is not a first-timer on the Australian soil, but this will be his debut appearance in JBWere Masters. The flamboyant Englishman is said to be equally excited to take part in the tournament, which has seen
only five non-Australian winners in 39 years.
