Luke Donald trying hard to stay on number 1
The first day of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational comes to an end, with Jim Furyk on the top of the leader board. As expected the first day was quite interesting and full of entertainment.
The four-day event started on the 2nd of August and is going to end on the 5th of August. The venue for this prestigious event is the Firestone Country Club in Ohio, USA.
With the event in full swing, one of the players who are in the spot light is Luke Donald. It is vital for the 34-year-old to occupy a strong position in this tournament or he could lose his number one spot.
If Tiger Woods manages to bag this tournament and Donald ends it on third position or lower, then Woods is going to be the new number one.
Luke Donald managed to put on a good score after the first day. On the front nine, he carded four birdies and just a single bogey. These made his score three-under par after the first nine holes.
His back nine was not as good as his front nine. He only managed to score three birdies, which were followed by two bogeys. There were no eagles or double bogeys for the day for Donald. He has a score of four-under par after the first day.
The English professional golfer talked about being number one and how it pushed him to do better. He said, “I love being No 1. It’s a great plus mentally, just knowing it was the results that got me there. And it pushes me harder to stay there”.
Donald was well aware about his mistakes for the day. He gave away three bogeys on the day, which held him back. “I gave a few bogeys back with a few poor drives,” he added.
After giving a decent performance Luke Donald was tied at the third spot with five other players, including Bubba Watson and fellow Englishman Simon Dyson. They were three strokes behind the leader, Jim Furyk who had a score of seven-under par in the first
round.
