Luke Donald unfazed after dropping to the second position
Luke Donald has lost his top position in the world golf rankings after a poor finish at the RBC Heritage, but he appears to be unfazed after slipping to the second position.
The 34-year-old English professional golf player displayed a mediocre performance at the PGA Tour event. He finished tied for the 37th position and scored a 2-over 286 at the end of the day.
He faced tough hurdles at the Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, South Carolina. He scored 75, 69, 71 and 71 throughout the four days and was unable to compete for the title.
This is the second time he has lost the top spot, in just a month. Last time, it was March 4, when Rory McIlroy won the Honda Classic and snatched the top Official World Golf Ranking position from him.
The Englishman regained his leading position after winning the Transitions Championship, on March 18, 2012. However, he has again lost the leadership, as he finished the RBC Heritage on the lowest leaderboard position.
Since January, he has shown an average performance, whereas in 2011, he was the most successful player of the year.
Donald started the current PGA season from Northern Trust Open and finished on T56. He, again, faced difficulties while scoring at the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship and finished on the 33rd position.
On the other hand, he finished tied for the 32nd position at the Masters. This was also the reason for him being ranked on the second position.
He has faced defeat from McIlroy twice in a month. McIlroy is giving his best in the current year. He did a great job and made all-out efforts to achieve the top ranking position.
In a recent interview, Donald admitted that he is not giving impressive performances this year. However, he is also confident that he will improve his game and will claim the ranking position in the near future.
"Is it a concern? No," he said. "Obviously, I'd have liked to have played a bit more consistently this year. I built it up nicely last year through tournaments and winning a bunch".
There are many tournaments scheduled for the current year, and if Donald delivers his best, he can be on the top again. There are ample chances for the Englishman to regain his ranking position in the near future.
