Luke Donald wins the Barclays Scottish Open
Luke Donald compiled a score of nine-under-par, 63 in the final round of Barclays Scottish Open to lift his third trophy of the season. The winner banked on €550,250 worth of prize money with the triumph at the par-72 Castle Stuart
Golf Links in Inverness, Scotland.
Donald walked to the back nine of the rain-wrecked course early in the morning and successfully completed his second round with a score of five-under-par. Marching towards the first tee of Castle Stuart, the 33-year-old showed off
his tartan pants to the media and dedicated his final round to his father’s land; Scotland.
Leaving the opening two holes at par, Donald fired four back-to-back birdies starting from the par-4 third hole and joined the leaders of the second round. The winner of World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play and BMW PGA Championship
wasn't finished though, as he clamped one more birdie on the closing hole and sealed the front nine with a score of five-under-par, 31.
The glorious start gave Donald great confidence, and set him on track to lead the way. Walking towards the back nine for the last summit, the veteran clamped four more birdies and wrapped the day as the winner.
Commenting on his triumph, Donald said, “If you played well it was there for the taking and with the greens being softer and very little wind. But I holed the putts when I needed to, and I holed a bunch of 20, 25 footers out there
today, and had a good feel for the greens. I was seeing the lines very well and it was nice to hold them when it mattered. I felt good out there. I felt very comfortable and very in control, and that's a good sign for next week.”
He also shed light on his plans for the next week. He said that winning a tournament just before the Open Championship was a positive sign that proved his preparations for the major were complete.
Donald's next stop is the St George's Golf Club, where the Open Championship is taking place next week.
