Luke Donald’s brother Christian optimistic about his victory in Masters next year
World number one Luke Donald’s brother Christian, although claims to be in opposition for the moment, caddying for German Martin Kaymer, is still confident that Donald has all the ability to pull in a major title starting afresh next year. Christian joined
Kaymer almost two months ago when the former world number one lost his caddy. And while all of his loyalties should now be aligned with Kaymer, Christian remains confident that Donald’s next destination is a major title, which has eluded him so often in the
past.
"A major is definitely a next step he can make next year. I think he's got to drive a little straighter, but he's working hard on it. If he does get that right, I think he will win one next year." Christian said.
Donald has done amazingly well in the current season. Starting off from the beginning of the year where he clinched his first title of the year, the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship at Tucson, Arizona, he won several times all over the world. He dislodged
Lee Westwood from the summit of the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) at the BMW PGA Championship in Wales where he won the title on the second Playoff against Westwood. But following the fate of his nemesis Westwood, for some strange reason, the duo has
not won a single major title in their otherwise stellar careers.
“In the old days he used to try too hard and he was accused of not having a killer-instinct. I always knew he could have that - it was just a case of how soon," Christian explained.
Christian believes that Augusta suits Donald’s style of playing and is confident that he will be able to bag the title next year. Donald finished fourth at Masters last year.
"We've found out over the last few years that he seems to have his best chance at the Masters," he added.
Donald, who was often jokingly, remarked “Luke” synonymous to his name, lacks of what can be called a good drive of the tee shot. Over the years, the 33-year-old Englishman has worked his heart out to improve his putting and short game to make up for the
loss and have enjoyed reasonable success in return. He is currently resting on top of both the money lists for the moment. He won the FedExCup Money list after winning the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals last month and is currently on a break from mainstream
golf as his wife Diane is expected to give birth to their second child this week.
Donald is also on his way to close the season on top of both the moeny lists, Race to Dubai on European Tour and FedExCup on PGA Tour, which will be first precedent of its kind in the history of the sport.
