Luke Donаld plans to have a surgery to cure his sinuses
The former world number one, Luke Donаld, has revealed that he will be going through а surgery in the off-season, in а bid to cure the lingering issues with his sinuses.
After finishing tied for the third position at the European Tour’s DP World Tour Championship, Donald told that he was having troubles with his sinuses during the final two rounds.
According to the Englishman, his sinuses were all clogged up, and he started suffering with the infection because of his tough routine on the course
“My sinuses are all completely clogged up and every time I get a little bit run down they turn into infections,” the 34-year-old Briton told reporters. “Hopefully the surgery will fix it. It's a pretty quick and easy operation”.
Entering the final round of the European Tour’s season-ending tournament, he was sharing the lead with Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland.
According to the golf commentators, he was in a great position to win the tournament and was enjoying a good run of form – he did not conceded a single bogey during the first 56 holes that he played.
However, he lost the momentum in the final round by suffering a bogey on the third hole. Thereafter, he parred each of the next eight holes, prior to losing another shot on the 12th hole.
He then added birdies on the 14th and the 16th hole to finish the day in one-under. However, the score was not good enough to challenge McIlroy on top of the leaderboard.
At the end of the day, he found himself five-strokes adrift of the Northern Irishman, who fired a six-under par 66 to record his fifth victory of the season.
Talking to the reporters after completing his round, Donald made it clear that his poor performance on Sunday should not be blamed on his problems with the sinuses.
He admitted that he was not able to face the challenge offered by the current world and European number one.
“I don't like to make excuses but the last couple of days I've had the sinus issue again,” said Donald. “I felt a little bit flat and unfortunately I couldn't get things going on Sunday”.
