Luke Guthrie got off to another good start on the PGA Tour
Luke Guthrie got off to another good PGA Tour start and recorded a bogey-free seven-under par 65 to take the second position at the True South Classic on Thursday, July 19, 2012.
Right after he turned professional this year, he started impressing the golf communities around the world. He made his PGA Tour debut at the FedEx St Jude Classic and tied for an impressive 19th position.
A month later, he stunned his opponents at the John Deere Classic with a strong finish, tied for the fifth place.
For the last couple of years, many young stars have made breakthroughs on the bigger screen such as Rory McIlroy, Rickey Fowler, Keegan Bradley and the like.
Therefore, another fine start by Guthrie at the Annandale Golf Club can threaten other pros on the PGA Tour, as an entry of a new future superstar.
According to him, Mike Small, his college golf coach, and brother, Zach Guthrie, have been of great help to him in learning new things in the game of golf.
“My brother, Zach Guthrie, and Mike Small (Coach), as everyone knows, is a great player, and I've learned so much from them in the last four years,” he said. “I just took the attitude of trying to get better every day and still have that. I'm playing pretty
good golf right now, and I just want to keep it going”.
Guthrie started off on the back nine of the course and recoded four birdies until the ninth hole (No. 18) to go four-under for the round.
The front nine also saw him play some really nice strokes and recorded another three birdies to settle just one shot behind the leader Jason Bohn.
“I'm just trying to have fun,” he said. “...Mike Small at the University of Illinois really teaches you how to play the game and just play to the strong side of the pins and just teaches you how to play. I'm just trying to use what I learned there and play
solid golf”.
A total of five players were following him with a one-stroke margin at the shared third position.
