Luke Hughes shines as Minnesota Twins defeat Detroit Tigers 11-4 - MLB Update
Minnesota Twins’ second baseman, Luke Hughes had a remarkable day with the bat as he hit five RBIs including two homers and went 2-for-4 with an average of .245 in the Twins’ 11-4 victory against the Detroit Tigers at Target Field, Minnesota on August 28.
Twins started particularly well and blasted two quick runs at the bottom of first inning to get a 2-0 lead. Jason Kubel struck a two-run homer (414 feet) towards right-centre and Trevor Plouffe added the second run. Tigers’ batters also kept their roster
alive by posting two runs in the second inning to tie the game 2-2.
Victor Martinez and Alex Avila both scored two consecutive runs for Tigers when Ramon Santiago hit a single-run drive to left-field. Twins went ahead 3-2 at the bottom of third inning when Justin Morneau singled off left-centre and Ben Revere added a tie-breaking
run. In the fourth inning, Twins smashed three runs to take a 6-2 lead.
Danny Valencia scored one run when Rene Tosoni hit a triple-run shot to deep right-field. Hughes struck a two-run homer (411 feet) towards left-centre and Tosoni posted the third run during fourth inning. In the fifth inning, the pitchers struck-out the
batters without yielding even a single run.
Twins’ starter, Brian Duensing surrendered four runs, seven hits and three walks in his six inning pitches with an ERA of 5.09. He permitted three earned runs on his 93 pitches and had four strike-outs. In the sixth inning, Tigers reduced their lead by scoring
two runs while Twins also posted one run to raise their lead 7-4, at the bottom of sixth inning.
Delmon Young contributed a single run when Martinez hit a sacrifice fly to left-field while Miguel Cabrera moved to third base on the throwing error of Twins’ left-fielder Tosoni. The second or the last run for Tigers was taken by Cabrera when Avila was
ground out to second base.
On the other side, Tosoni posted a single run for Twins when Rene Rivera hit a sacrifice fly to right-field. In the seventh inning, Twins’ batters added four runs to advance their lead 11-4. Hughes homered (368 feet) towards left-field while Plouffe, Morneau
and Valencia each singled to complete a four-run campaign for Twins.
Despite this amazing victory, Twins lost the three-game series 2-1 against Tigers, at Minnesota.
