Luke Hughes suffers shoulder injury - MLB Minnesota Twins News
Luke Hughes is a very talented young individual. He is one of the only 106 hitters who hit a home run on their very first Major League Baseball appearance. Since he made his Major League Baseball debut in 2010, the guy has produced some magical performances.
Minnesota Twins’ infielder blasted seven home runs in 96 games for the Twins last season. Showing glimpses of his extraordinary talent, he made a name for himself. However, Hughes picked up a shoulder injury while playing the Australian Winter League semi-finals and he is expected to have his right shoulder examined in Minnesota this week.
The 27-year-old infielder had a severe collision on the plate in a game against Melbourne and he didn’t play for the Perth Heat following that incident. Hughes looked in commanding form during the Australian League. Posting an incredible .344 batting in 19 games, he helped his hometown team secure some important wins.
In an interview with a leading sports website, Twins’ manager Terry Ryan expressed his concerns on Hughes’ fitness. He stated that Hughes had an MRI in Australia and he has been asked to come back for analysing his health and fitness levels. Ryan further added that Hughes will be sent to Fort Myers for Spring Training session right afterwards
Ryan stated that Hughes doesn’t look to be 100 percent fit so they asked him to have his shoulder examined. Since the collision was of a serious nature, the team wants to ensure that he is fit and healthy to proceed without any difficulties.
“He had an MRI in Australia,” Ryan further added. “We’re going to bring him in here, probably Thursday or Friday, to make sure everything’s in order. He’ll go right to Fort Myers [Fla.] for spring training.”
However, according to sources the injury is not a serious one and Terry Ryan called the injury just a strain in his shoulder. Luke Hughes will be looking to get back into shape as early as possible to participate in Spring Training session. He will be looking to post some good stats in 2012, as he will have a great opportunity to earn a huge pay day at the end of the season.
