Luke McAlister leads the Blues stunning victory over Highlanders- Rugby update
Blues stun the Highlanders by 15-10 in a Super Rugby clash played tonight in Carisbrook. It was all about Luke McAlister as far as scoring for Blues was concerned.
He was impressive with his boots tonight as he landed five penalties inside the goalposts. The Highlanders seemed to be chasing the visitors most of the time in the game.
The Highlanders were left l*****g their wounds despite the slow start from both sides. The Blues stole an early march over the Highlanders within the first ten minutes of the game. There was a long recession in the game as it went on without scoring any
point and Blues winded up the first part of the clash with 9-0.
The visitors had a full control of the game until the end of first half. Their flawless defense denied every opportunity to the host, Highlanders.
The Highlanders made couple of very good attempts during the first part of game but could not execute a finish. Ben Smith and Adam Thomson were in a good touch as they played desperately well for the Highlanders.
The later blow proved fatal for the Highlanders as Aaron Smith was sent off the field during the second half. He made a terrible tackle at the Blues’ flanker, Toby Morland, and referee had no hesitation to exclude him from the field.
The second half belonged to the Highlanders as they bounced back in to the game quite nicely. They left no stone unturned to win the game but poor judgment of the referee left them suffering in the end.
Robbie Robinson played relatively better for Highlanders and scored a try along with a penalty and conversion.
The crucial time of the match was the sin binning of Blues’ player, Hoeata, on allegedly killing the ball over the opposite ruck. Pollock penalized the Blues and denied to handover the ball to them.
The hard fought victory again put the Blues on top of the point’s tables as they grabbed seventh consecutive victory of the tournament. Overall it was eighth win for Blues after 10 outgoings in the current Super Rugby championship.
