Luke Peddie clinches Men’s 50m freestyle gold: Day four – Canadian Summer Nationals
Luke Peddie of OSC clinched gold medal of the Men’s 50m freestyle on closing day of the 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals at the Edmonton Kinsmen Sport Centre in Edmonton on Sunday, July 22.
The 19-year-old Peddie faced no competition from his fellow swimmers throughout the shortest freestyle event and occupied gold medal of the discipline in an easy manner.
With his epic start and relentless efforts, he stayed in a lead of half body length over his strongest challenger and touched the wall with the timing of 22.77 seconds.
His gold claiming effort remained 0.37 seconds ahead of Kelly Aspinall of VAND, who made his way to the podium for silver medal by clocking a time of 23.14 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Alex Loginov of TSC, who remained 0.05 seconds behind and finished third in the event by producing a time of 23.19 seconds.
Subsequently, Loginov was followed by Chris Manning of WRMS, who was only 0.03 seconds slower from outsmarting the bronze medallist and settled on the finishing end as fourth finest swimmer by posting a time of 23.22 seconds.
The 20-year-old Manning was chased by Charlie Tapp of LOSC, who remained 0.16 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing blockade as fifth fastest finisher by touching the wall with an effort of 23.38 seconds.
Sixth position of the discipline was secured by Octavian Petre of CAMO, who was 0.06 seconds slower and reached the finishing blockade by submitting a time of 23.44 seconds.
The 25-year-old Petre was trailed by Bill c***s of TRENT, who was only one arm-stroke slower from his preceding swimmer and settled on the finishing blockade as seventh fastest swimmer by submitting a time of 23.71 seconds.
c***s enjoyed a benefit of 0.02 seconds over Matthew Grillo of Pointe-Claire Swim Club, who cruised his way towards the finishing blockade by reporting a time of 23.73 seconds for eighth position.
Peddie was extremely contented with his tremendous form in the discipline and stated that he would try his best to improve his timing and excel in the same discipline at the forthcoming events.
