Luke Reilly conquers Men’s 400m IM gold: Day two – 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals
Luke Reilly of VAND conquered gold medal of the Men’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on day two of the 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals at the Edmonton Kinsmen Sport Centre in Edmonton on Friday, July 20.
The 16-year-old Reilly lived up to expectations of his supporters as he dominated the playoff of the distant IM discipline. With his relentless efforts, Reilly devastated hopes of his opponents and reached the finishing wall for first position.
His commendable pace placed him prominently away from his strongest challenger as he touched the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 23.75 seconds for the crown of the discipline.
The champion was chased by David Dimitrov of LLSC, who stayed 0.31 seconds apart and secured silver medal of the discipline by submitting a nice time of 4 minutes and 24.06 seconds.
Dimitrov was chased by Mack Darragh of OAK, who stayed two and a half body lengths apart and proved his mettle for bronze medal of the discipline by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 26.78 seconds.
Similarly, Darragh was chased by his teammate, Evan White, who remained 1.92 seconds slower from his former finisher and settled on the finishing blockade as fourth position holder by producing an effort of 4 minutes and 28.70 seconds.
Fifth position of the discipline was obtained by Will Brothers of Island Swimming, who stayed 1.31 seconds away from improving his position and tapped the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 30.01 seconds.
The 17-year-old Brothers was trailed by Aly Abdel-Khalik of ESWIM, who suffered a loss of 0.42 seconds from his foregoing finisher and posted a time of 4 minutes and 30.43 seconds for sixth position.
Abdel-Khalik was chased by Jonathan Brown of NCSA, who remained almost 0.40 seconds apart and hit the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 30.81 seconds for seventh position.
Eighth spot of the event was secured by Evan Broderick of VAND, who stayed 0.36 seconds apart and clocked a time of 4 minutes and 31.17 seconds.
In addition, Reilly was overjoyed with his gold finish in the 400m IM.
