Luke Roberts and Lucas Sebastian Haedo leaves Team Saxo-Tinkoff, Reports
The 2012 professional season is over as we moved towards the most important part of the year, the transfers.
Although, all the major cycling teams have already finalised their rosters, signing the top performers of the 2012 seasons in several multi-million deals.
According to the latest transfer update as reported by several news agencies, Luke Roberts and Lucas Sebastian Haedo are leaving Team Saxo-Tinkoff Bank after the end of 2012 season.
The 29-year-old Haedo has decided to pledge his future to Team Cannondale after spending three years with Bjarne Riis.
The Argentinean’s commendable performances in the current season include a fifth place finish at the Giro d’Italia stage 18 along with a second position at the Stage 1 of Tour de I’Ain 2012.
The cyclist marked his professional debut back in 2009 with Team Colavita-Sutter Home and signed a two-year deal with Team Saxo Bank in 2010.
Sebastian’s contract was renewed for one year in 2011 and he has now decided to end the three-year old association with the team after putting pen to paper with Team Cannondale.
Lucas was hit by a motorbike during the stage 2 of the Paris-Nice and had to stay off his bike for a period of two months.
“Unfortunately, Sebastian was hit by a police motor bike on its way through the field to lead the pack in the right direction and by accident, he was hit and crashed,” Team Sports Director Bradley McGee explained.
“It has been a very nervous day in general with lots of wind and a nervous peloton which kind of make things difficult for both riders and the organizers trying to protect them”.
The cyclist injured his knee during the crash that involved several other cyclists and was immediately transported to the hospital.
Other crash sufferers included Heinrich Haussler (Garmin-Cervélo), Fränk Schleck (Leopard Trek), Tony Martin (HTC-Highroad), Levi Leipheimer (RadioShack) and Johan Van Summeren (Garmin-Cervélo), although they all recovered to finish with the main peloton.
Similarly, Luke Roberts was delighted to secure a deal with the UCI Continental side, Team Raiko Stolting and is hopeful to find the right form early on the season .
