Luke Saville denies Liam Broady Boys’ Singles title – Wimbledon Championships 2011
Sixteenth seeded Australian Luke Saville bounced from a set down to win against fifteenth seeded British Liam Broady in a three set thriller at Boys’ Singles – Wimbledon Championships 2011, a most prestigious tournament held on
the grass courts in London, United Kingdom. He registered a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory over the 17-year-old Aussie to clinch the Grand Slam title on Saturday.
The Aussie perfected his gameplay to win this major junior title after losing at Australian Open in January earlier this season. He made an epic comeback at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club to down Broady in front of his
home crowd.
The British lad on the other hand had an eleven match winning streak and was in top form. He was the only hope for British people to keep a title at their home at 125th anniversary of Wimbledon after Andy Murray was
ousted in the quarter-finals on Friday. Broady, however, didn’t live up to the expectations as he committed several unforced errors to exit the event with disappointment.
Stockport’s Broady stormed into the opening set and held entire serves from massive forehands from his arsenal of skills. He saved all three breakpoints conceded and broke Aussie’s serve twice to make quick in-roads. The British
boy eventually clinched the opener with an assuring 6-2 score line in thirty-six minutes.
He carried his momentum and with early breaks earned, he took a 5-3 lead. The British boy required only eight points to earn the glory when he lost his ways.
Saville, on the other side, went into overdrive to pull out the equaliser in another thirty-six minutes. Regardless of losing his serve twice early on, the Aussie broke Broady’s serve repeatedly and one he converted in the tenth
game, led him to win the set with a 6-4 score line.
The crowd helped the Brit to earn breakpoint opportunities in the decider but it was of no use since he wasted those chances.
"For the duration of the match I don't think I served my best. Obviously he's a good returner and he's a good player, so at times in the match he's going to make it tough. He managed to break me and he started to serve better.
It just slipped away," Broady said after the match.
The Aussie, however, kept momentum rolling into the final set and with an early break of serve, he took a 3-1 lead.  He saved both breakpoints conceded and converted both breakpoint opportunities to his advantage to bag the set
with a 6-2 score line in thirty-five minutes.
"I was in a bit of trouble early on, I just hung in there,'' said Saville. ''I've been doing that the whole tournament. My greatest attribute is composure under pressure and he got a little tight on his service games. It's an unbelievable
feeling as I thought it was going to be a disappointment for a second time but I was determined not to let it happen.”
The Aussie is now aiming to get into the qualifiers or the main draw of the main event, next year.
