Luke Saville dominates Adam Pavlasek to reach the Boys’ Singles final – Australian Open 2012
Although none of the Aussies have made it to the finals of women’s and men’s draws at the Australian Open, the promising 17-year-old Luke Saville has kept the local hopes alive in the star-studded mega event at home. The top seed
has forced his way to the final of the Boys’ Singles category, defeating the 10th seed surprise package, Adam Pavlasek, in the semi-final clash on Friday afternoon.
Saville took merely 69 minutes of play to wrap up victory in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, marching into the title match of the Grand Slam Down Under. The top seed Australian prodigy was the finalist at the Australian Open last year
but failed to earn glory at the elite platform (lost the final to Jiri Vesely in straight sets, 0-6, 3-6). He outplayed Pavlasek in the opening round last year and repeated the similar feat on Friday to ear another title shot at the coveted Australian Open
trophy.
Saville bagged his first Junior Grand Slam title last year at Wimbledon Championships and continued his sublime run of form to become the Australian Open finalist for a second straight time. He delivered 71 per cent of his first
serve on target and secured 29 out of 36 points on it to come out as the winner. Three break points were registered by the Aussie youngster, while Pavlasek could register barely one serve break to finish on the losing side in the end.
A steady star from the two competitors was seen in the first set and they both held on to their serves in the opening seven games. Saville finally made his move in the eighth game and registered the first break point of the day
to lead 5-3. The top seed served out of the opener comprehensively at 6-3 to get one up in the match.
Pavlasek got some winning momentum in the following set and came out firing at the Aussie opponent, breaking his serve in the second game to lead 3-0. His impetus didn’t last for long and Saville launched his counter-onslaught
to turn the table over the Czech. He broke Pavlasek’s serve in two consecutive games and rocketed away to victory at 6-4.
