Luke Saville overpowers Lucas Pouille to reach the Boy’s third round – Australian Open 2012
Top seed, Luke Saville, rallied past the French contestant, Lucas Pouille, in a three set mouth watering match at the Boy’s Singles event of the Australian Open 2012 on Tuesday. Saville registered a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory over the French lad to book a spot
in the third round at this major hard court tournament held on his home soil.
The highly positive Aussie put up a firm display of tennis to overwhelm resilience posed by the French teenager in an hour and 42 minutes long duel. They previously met each other at this Grand Slam event last year and after earning this success, he maintained
his winning record against Pouille.
Ranked 1177th in the South African Airways ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Rankings, Saville self-assuredly stepped on court number three at the Melbourne Park and drew the first blood in the second game to eventually go 3-0 up.
Later he held remaining serves and bagged the opener with a 6-3 win in almost half an hour.
The French youngster changed his strategy in the following set and kept his serve in the opening game. He earned the desiderated break in the fourth game and swiped in remaining serves to clinch the equaliser with a 6-3 score line in 34 minutes.
The 17-year-old Aussie got back on track in the final set and got the critical break in the sixth game, subsequently going 5-2 up. Regardless of losing his edge in the ninth game, he capitalised on another break chance in the very next game and sealed the
decider by winning six games to four.
Crowd favourite, Saville, clobbered a higher first serve share of 71 percent as opposed to the French’s 55 percent and clicked magnificent 66 percent win on it. He spilled more unforced errors but covered it up by hammering more winners. The Aussie blocked
one out of three breakpoints he came across but cashed in three out of nine break opportunities to prevail.
Next up for the Australian rising star is the 16th seeded Egyptian, Karim Hossam, who edged past the Brazilian qualifier, Pedro Guimaraes, in straight sets to set-up this meeting.
