Luke Saville trashes Karim Hossam to reach Boy’s Singles quarters – Australian Open 2012
Crowd favourite, Luke Saville, breezes past the Egyptian teenager, Karim Hossam, in straight sets at the Australian Open 2012 on Wednesday. He formulated a 6-2, 6-2 victory over the Egyptian to advance into the final eight of the Boy’s Singles event at the Melbourne Park.
The top seed required 52 minutes to tumble over Hossam at the first Grand Slam event of the season held in Melbourne, Australia. He broke the Egyptian’s serve four times to book a spot in the final eight at this major hard court event with conviction.
Saville confidently stepped on Court 3 and pocketed the opening game to go 1-0 up in no time. After the Egyptian held his serve in the fourth game, Saville unleashed his true colours and reeled off the last four games in a row, sealing the opener with a 6-2 victory.
The Aussie youngster kept momentum floating into the following set and earned the critical break in the fourth game, subsequently going 4-1 up. Later he held the remaining serves and capitalised on another break chance in the last game to clinch the set with a 6-2 score line.
The 17-year-old plucked in entire serves without facing any resistance and converted half of the eight break opportunities to his advantage. He also marked a higher first serve share of 70 percent as compared to the Egyptian’s 57 percent and clicked a total of 53 points.
Next in line for the highest ranked player of this event is the seventh seed, Kyle Edmund, who dusted away Kimmer Coppejans with a breadstick to set-up this clash. The British cashed in all six break chances to register a 7-6(7), 6-1 victory over the 11th seed.
The 10th seed, Adam Pavlasek will join the Aussie in the quarter-finals after displaying tremendous abilities. He stunned the fifth seeded Portuguese, Frederico Ferreira Silva in straight sets to advance. The Czech dusted away five breakpoints he came across and broke the Portuguese’s serve three times to clobber a 6-3, 6-2 victory in an hour. He also spilled fewer double faults and unforced errors and clinched an impressive 24 out of 32 points on his first serve share.
