Luke Simmonds, Gary Wilson and David Morris surge into second round – World Snooker Q School Event 2
Luke Simmonds, Gary Wilson and David Morris beat James Welsh, Stephen Ormerod and Manish Jain respectively to move into the second round on the second day of the 2011 Qualifying School Event two.
The second event of the 2011 World Snooker Q School is underway at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
China’s Mei Xi Wen and Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon of Thailand received walkovers against Andrew Norman and Adam Wicheard as Norman and Wicheard have already qualified for the main tour of the 2011-12 season after winning their quarter-finals in the first
event of the Q School on Monday, May 16, 2011.
Luke Simmonds 4-1 James Welsh
Simmonds and Welsh went head-to-head in the second session of day two at Q School where Simmonds defeated Welsh with a convincing score line of 4-1.
The Englishman Simmonds made a strong start in the match when he grabbed the first frame by 107-17 to get off the mark at 1-0. Welsh replied brilliantly in the next frame as he took it 49-60 to pull level at 1-1.
The second frame win proved to be the only win for the Welsh as Simmonds stumbled upon the table and swept three consecutive frames to nudge Welsh 4-1 down in the end with frame scores of 107-17, 49-60, 71-34, 76 (54)-34 and 85-58 (50).
Gary Wilson 4-0 Stephen Ormerod
Ormerod could not get a single chance to capitalise against Wilson during his first round match at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
Wilson took a whitewash victory over Ormerod after taking four consecutive frames with superb knocks of 56, 96 and 117. The overall score line of the match was 79-37, 76 (56)-38, 96 (96)-0 and 118 (117)-8.
David Morris 4-0 Manish Jain
The Irishman Morris came at the table strongly and clinched all four frames quite convincingly to set up a Mei Xi Wen clash in the second round.
The Indian Jain could not make even a single close encounter during the match as a couple of stunning breaks of 118 and 50 from Morris brought him 4-0 down at the end of the match. The frame scores of the match were 68-19, 87-7, 118 (118)-7 and 61 (50)-16.
