Luke Watson will play for Kings, signs 3-year contract
Bath’s Captain, Luke Watson, has signed a new contract with Eastern Province Kings yesterday, which means that now he will play for his home country’s club and will move to South Africa, having previously
played in England.
He has initially signed a three year contract with the Kings and will be available to them at the end of this season. His first major tournament with his new club will be the 2011 Currie Cup.
Watson, who has also represented his country in 10 international Test matches, had a 2 years contract with the Bath Rugby Club, which will be ending at the end of this season. He has played 22 matches
with Bath and will play a few more until the season ends.
Bath has had a very good winning rate during his stay with the club. They won 14 matches and lost 6 matches with 2 matches drawn. Their winning rate was 68% during his stay.
Watson revealed his new contract on his Twitter account and said,
"I will be returning to SA after the completion of this season with Bath. I have signed a 3 year contract with the Eastern Province Kings.”
He thanked all members of Bath and said that his time with the club has been invaluable and it has been the best time of his life and he will never forget it. He added, that he was sad he was leaving
but he didn’t want to miss the opportunity to go back to his home country and live with his family and play there.
The Kings’ Coach, Alan Solomons, was pleased after signing the contract with Watson and first thanked him and said he knew Watson was in demand from other European clubs but that he still preferred
to play with the Kings. He is sure that Watson’s inclusion will definitely help his team to perform better.
Solomons further said that the Kings’ main aim was to build a team, which can win the 2011 Currie Cup and that is why, his club has made Watson a part of their squad and Watson is also aware of the
club’s vision and reason for his inclusion. He said, Watson has a passion to play for his club and he has the leadership qualities too, as he has captained Bath during the current season and his inclusion will provide guidance to the other players.
Undoubtedly, Kings’ contract with Watson will definitely help them as he is one of the best players at the position of loose forward in the rugby league and he is capable of winning the Currie Cup
for his club.
