Question:

Luke Webster from Freo Dockers. Will he play again after his fourth knee reconstruction?

He did his knee in last weekend while playing for WAFL team East Perth. The knee he stuffed this time has had two ops in the past. This will be the third on this particular knee. He wants to keep going but I think Freo will cut him at the end of the year.

I had two ops on both knees in the past & am currently recovering from a total knee replacement to my right knee. I can imagine how all these players who are having knee ops will be the same & be old crocks in the future.

Total knee ops are no fun.

  1. The same thing happened to Ryan Fitzgerald who played for Sydney and Adelaide he promptly retired this may be this kids only option.

  2. poor bugger, that's bad news mate, don't know a real lot about the bloke but that's a shame for young fella. i think he should chuck it in, whats the point. i know where your coming from with the old crocks comment, i too feel like an old 75 year old some mornings.

i had both knees operated on too, haven't had the knee replacement yet but who knows whats ahead hey, my old mate, who is 75, he has had both done and he is back playin golf,  went through a stack of pain though, like you must of.

why do we do it, and if you had your time again, would you of played, my answer is bloody oath, i would love to play again, lasted till 41, 5 years later, i still dream of playing so this young blokes decision might have to made for him.

  3. Just shows how much advantage interstate clubs have, they can play people with four knees, even if they're wonky.

Apart from that, sorry for Webster because as you say the op is no walk in the WACA. Hope he does regain the full use of both knees.

Problem is that AFL is evolving a style where a specific build is favoured: someone around 95 kg, 190 cm approx, big shoulders and chest and very trim elsewhere, with long slim legs. No matter how muscular the legs are, they are still holding up an awful lot of footballer, and combined with the harder grounds produced by covers and modern science, no wonder there's someone lost to a knee injury most weeks.

And no, I don't have a suggestion to fix this.

  4. its happened to a few guys

unfortunately, i doubt h**l play again

i thought the dockers had already cut him

but its a shame...some players are just unlucky

  5. Thats a bad loss for Freo :( Hopefully he will get to recover quickly and make a comeback. He is a great player though i'm not sure what he was doing in the WAFL. Anyone know?
