Luke Wood seizes Men’s 50m backstroke gold: Day one – 2012 British GAS ASA Nationals
Great Britain veteran, Luke Wood of Co Salford seized gold medal of the Men’s 50m backstroke on initial day of the 2012 British GAS ASA Nationals in Sheffield, England on Wednesday, June 20.
Wood devastated hopes of his opponents in the single lap backstroke discipline as he proved his eligibility for gold medal of the event. With his fascinating efforts, he managed to outperform his strongest challenger over the finishing end for the title
of the race.
His tremendous pace placed him marginally ahead of his opponents from the start as he clocked an effort of 25.77 seconds for the crown of the event.
He was followed by his teammate David Gregory, who stayed only 0.02 seconds behind and tapped the finishing end with an effort of 25.79 seconds for silver medal.
The silver medallist was chased by Joseph Patching of Plymouth Lea, who stayed half body length behind and made his way to the finishing end with an effort of 25.26 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Charlie Boldison of Barnet Copt, who stayed just 1.01 seconds slower from outsmarting his foregoing finisher and clocked a timing of 26.27 seconds.
Boldison was followed by Kieran McGuckin of Edinburgh University, who stayed two strokes apart and finished fifth in the event with an effort of 26.66 seconds.
Sixth position of the discipline was secured by Sam Horrocks of Co Manchester Aquatics, who stayed 0.32 seconds behind and posted a time of 26.98 seconds.
Horrocks was trailed by James Thomson of Edinburgh University, who remained 0.16 seconds slower and tapped the wall with the timing of 27.14 seconds.
Last spot of the race was secured by Jonathan Carlisle of Co Sund’land, who stayed 0.04 seconds apart and earned eighth position of the discipline with the timing of 27.18 seconds.
Andrew McGovern of Co Aberdeen and Kevin Pickard of Hatfield secured ninth and tenth finishing spots of the event with timings of 27.32 and 27.60 seconds.
Furthermore, the championship will end on June 23 after the completion of all listed events in Men and Women’s corner.
