Luke Wright looking forward to Wellington move
England and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sussex-c852 all-rounder Luke Wright says he is looking forward to playing Twenty20 cricket for Wellington this winter.
Wright has not been included in the England Test match squad for the Ashes, which means he is free to travel to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 and play limited-overs cricket. However, he is likely to be included in England's
one-day international and T20 squads for the Australia tour.
The move is very clever because it allows Wright to stay in form in the format of the game he is best at. He will also be geographically close by if the main England party needs a replacement player at
short notice.
The move will be extremely beneficial to Wright's game. However, one or two pundits have suggested that a move to a team in Australia may have been the better option.
Big benefits
Wright recognises that limited overs cricket is his best chance of playing for England against Australia. It's also the format of the game that he's most productive at. Playing regularly will allow him
to maintain a good standard of form.
The deal will allow Wright to maintain good levels of physical fitness. There is no better way for a player to stay match fit than playing cricket regularly. Wellington provides a good platform for Wright
to use ahead of next spring.
The move will enhance Wright's experience of playing Twenty20 cricket. He has never played domestic cricket in New Zealand before and it will add an extra element to his game. This should mean he becomes
a better T20 and limited-overs player.
"Having played many games against (New Zealand) and touring with England two years ago, I know first hand the skill and toughness that Kiwis bring to the cricket field. I'm keen to test myself alongside
and against the best in their domestic competition," said Wright.
Choice of move
One or two pundits in the game have questioned Wright's choice of move. This is because it would have been more beneficial to his England career for Wright to play in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
This would have meant that Wright was in the same country as the rest of the England set-up. The Australian T20 competition is also much tougher and of higher quality than the New Zealand equivalent.
Wright could also have been used as a source of information for the England team on the Australian domestic game. This would be key for ideas on how to play against lesser known Australian players.
"I'm thrilled that Wellington has secured a player of Luke Wright's quality. He is exactly the type of player who will complement the skill set of our players. We were looking for an exciting player who
has the ability to win matches with both bat and ball [and] Luke will perform this role extremely well," added http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wellington-c864 coach Anthony Stuart.
Betting advice
Wright is a very powerful player in 20 and 50 over cricket. Don't hesitate in backing him to score a half century in any match that he plays for Wellington. He's also a good bet to take five wickets with
the ball.
Be more wary when it comes to how he plays in the England side. The better option when Wright plays for England is to bet in play. This is because it will be easier to judge the effect and form he has
at international level.
It's unlikely that Wright will feature at any point during the Test matches against Australia. There are other players who will be called in as replacements if any players in the Test side pick up injuries.
