Luke Wright looking forward to impress the England selectors
The young English all-rounder, Luke Wright is looking forward to make the most of the opportunity, of proving his worth in the team, and possibly being selected in the playing-11 of the World Cup.
Wright has been in the limited-over squad of England for the past two years. He has been handy with the bat in the death overs and has done well with the ball for his team on many occasions.
However, the competition in the English team has been very tough for the past year. The team has many all-rounders who have proven their worth and Wright will find it very hard to make it to the final 11.
However, the English team has looked a bit vulnerable in the One Day International (ODI) series against Australia. The team dominated the Ashes series but there has been a dip in form since then.
The only thing that has worked in the favour of Wright is that many players have sustained injuries. Earlier, the leading off-spinner, Graeme Swann was sent back to England following injury problems.
Tim Bresnan, Ajmal Shehzad and Chris Tremlett have also sustained injuries during the ODI series against Australia.
With so many players suffering from injuries, Wright is likely to get an opportunity to impress the selectors. He said, "Every time you play you give yourself an opportunity to make a statement and keep your spot. It only takes one game, a big hundred or
a five-for to get a spot down."
The all-rounder has been working hard to retain his form and fitness. Wright stated that he had a lot to prove at the international level and he would like to do well if he gets a chance to represent his team.
On losing the ODI series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, he said, "We've played outstandingly well in one-day cricket for two years now, so very disappointed to lose the series but obviously we've still got a lot to look forward."
There are still two matches remaining in the seven-match ODI series. The Kangaroos have won the series 4-1 and will be looking forward to win the next two matches as well.
However, Wright was confident that his team will win the next two matches and go in the World Cup with some winning momentum. He praised the Australian team and said that they have played top cricket in the ODIs.
Wright will be hoping to do well with the bat and prove that he is more than just a hitter. Luck might just be on his side with England's injury woes, and although that's a worry for the English selectors, Wright will surely be smiling back at the gods.
