Luke Young will miss Aston Villa’s next three matches
Defender Luke Young is expected to miss Aston Villa’s next three games after he picked up a hamstring injury.
The injury occurred last Friday during a training session and the right back missed the Premier League game against Chelsea as a result.
New Villa manager Gerard Houllier was disappointed after a scan revealed that Young would be out for two to three weeks.
"The doctor has told me Luke will need at least another two weeks [to recover] because it is a minor tear,” said Houllier
"It's a blow because it's worse than we initially thought," added the manager.
Young will now miss two Premiership matches against Sunderland and a derby match against Birmingham. The defender will also miss the mid-week Carling Cup game against Championship side Burnley.
The former England international should return to action for the league game against Fulham on 6 November.
Young’s injury adds to Houllier’s problems. The Aston Villa manager is already without the services of Gabriel Agbonlahor who is recovering from a groin operation.
"As for Gabby, I hope at some stage next week he may be able to train. He won't be involved this weekend," said Houllier.
Emile Heskey, Marc Albrighton and Richard Dunne are all further worries for the manager who will hope that the trio can be fit in time to return for their Premier League match with Sunderland.
“Richard has trained normally, Marc returned to training on Monday and Emile is much better and has trained normally," revealed Houllier.
However, Young will definitely be out and the defender will be missed by the team. The player has become a key player for Houllier in his short tenure as manager, after he was limited to very few first team appearances under former boss Martin O’Neill.
