Lump on my cats hip, any ideas?

My cat has a swollen golf ball sized lump on his right hip. He is limping and not bearing weight on it but still leaps up on and off of my 3 foot high bed. He is 1 yr., not vaccinated or neutered yet and indoor/outdoor. I noticed on his inner left leg he had some cuts. He isnt acting abnormal but less active because hes in pain. Do you think its broken/sprained? Im taking him to the vet but any ideas for tonight? Im really worried. Thanks in advance.

  1. tumor

  2. Time to go to the vet.

Pretty irresponsible to have a pet that is not vaccinated nor neutered if it is going outside.

  3. cancer

  4. it could be a tumor or a blocked blood vessle that swelled you need to get your cat to a vet asap

  5. first-yah needa get him nuetered.there are too many cats on the streets bc ppl dont get theirs fixed.and u need to take him to the  vet to find out what exactly the lump is.so while you are there make an appoinment for the vaccinations and to get him neutered.that will ensure youre cat living a long healthy happy life

  6. Sounds like an abcess to me but your vet will tell you for sure.  It's caused usually by being bitten or scratched by another animal and then gets infected and filled with puss.  It can cause worse problems if not treated promptly.  I also suggest you neuter your cat asap.  Not only will it likely help prevent your cat from getting into fights it will help control the outrageous pet population problem.  Keep your cat inside until he is neutered.

  7. If he's outdoors, there is a possibility he could have gotten into a fight with another cat since you also saw scratches.. It's possible it could be an abcess or it could be something worse like a break. An abcess is easy to treat, it is drained and the cat will be on antibiotics. Of course, a break will need a cast. Take him to the vet tomorrow.
