Question:

Lump on shin while running???

When I run, there are lumps in both of my lower shins in identical areas: a little bit above the ankle on the front outer of the shin. It is a bit painful and hurts when I try to heel walk. After a little rest, the pain subsides. It happens when I run, but I also felt it today while walking around, just sort of twitching around as I stepped almost as if the "meat" was loose. I've never had a shin splint before, is that what this is?

  1. most likely. the lumps are probably your muscles swelling up. try soaking your legs in ice water for 30 minutes daily to aid in muscle recovery. if you must run, do a light jog but nothing too extreme. go to an orthopedic and get some x-rays/MRIs done if it still bothers you after a week or two.

  2. It sure sounds like it.

I would recommmend putting ice on it and cross training (or just not running) for several weeks to see how the area heals.
