Luna Rossa helmsman Paul Campbell-James happy after lifting 2011 Extreme Sailing Series Act 9 title
Italy’s Luna Rossa, skippered by Max Sirena, has clinched the 2011 Extreme Sailing Series Act 9 title with 260 points after a week of intense racing. The crew in Italian team comprising of Max Sirena, Paul Campbell-James, Alister Richardson and Manuel Modena,
contributed with all their skills during the series campaign.
Luna Rossa also clinched the circuit title with eighty points. During their season run, they took two act titles, first in Qingdao, China, and second in Singapore. Skipper, Max Sirena is thrilled with the team’s victory and hopes that they will continue
the same winning attitude at the 2012 Extreme Sailing season, which will start in February.
On the other hand, Luna Rossa’s helmsman, Paul Campbell-James has two reasons to be excited. First, his team has won the final act and the overall season. Second, he has become the only helmsman to win two Extreme Sailing Series in his career.
Speaking to the local media at the conclusion of the act, Campbell-James said, “We’re ecstatic right now. The goal for the week was to beat Gitana and we had a 56 point lead this morning and at lunchtime we had 59 point lead. I was doing the maths in my
head and I knew that if we finished every race in the afternoon we would still beat them and we just had to stay out of trouble.”
Oman’s The Wave, Muscat hit the second podium place at the end of Act 9 but in the overall circuit standings, they have secured fourth place with 67 points. Emirates Team New Zealand claimed third position in both standings.
