Luna Rossa leads on Day 1 at Arzanà City of Venice Trophy: 2012 America’s Cup World Series
As expected before the start of the Arzanà City of Venice Trophy, Luna Rossa grabbed a handsome lead at the conclusion of Day 1 of the regatta which is a part of the 2012 America’s Cup World Series. The Luna Rossa team was outstanding on the Italian waters
and clinched all three race wins scheduled for the first day of the regatta.
The crowd present at the race venue witnessed some outstanding sailing competition on the opening day of the Italian sailing regatta. They were provided with impressive races by the Luna Rossa crew members as the teams went to start the first day proceedings.
The Luna Rossa Piranha was led by none other than Chris Draper who was quite determined to hit the leading spot form the beginning so that he could claim the overall standing leadership in the end to add another regatta title and final rule the America’s
Cup World Series.
The weather conditions on the Italian waters were not so strong or ideal to help the sailors finish the first day proceedings perfectly. The breeze was blowing up to 5 knots but it was not troubling for the sailors as they finished the scheduled three races
easily on the first day. Chris Draper’s Luna Rossa Piranha dominated the opening day with three bullets under challenging conditions.
Speaking to the local media at the conclusion of the day, Draper said, “Today we had some good starts, which is something we’ve been working on. It was good to put the training into practice. It was great to come through and win the races, but more importantly
we learned a lot.”
On the second podium finished the Luna Rossa Swordfish crew led by Paul Campbell-James.
Campbell-James spoke to the media, “We felt pretty good after that first race. It was light winds all day and pretty shifty, with lots of opportunities to slide up and slide down. It’s been a great day for Chris (Draper) but hopefully we’ll be able to push
them tomorrow.”
