Luna Rossa wins 2012 America's Cup World Series Naples Fleet Racing Championship – Sailing News
Chris Draper’s Luna Rossa displayed some excellent sailing skills on the Naples waters and hit a thrilling victory earning 92 points after participating in seven races. The final day of the 2012 America's Cup World Series Naples Fleet Racing Championship
was full of exciting sailing competitions on the race course and the spectators gathered at the venue enjoyed the tussling contests.
The weather conditions on the Naples waters were light, tricky and testing on the final day but they did not create problems for the fleet as the sailors finished the final day proceedings comfortably. The fleet launched their AC45 multihull yachts into
the water under moderate winds over the race course to start the proceedings. The breeze fluctuated a bit during the final day racing but it was not strong enough to trouble the participants.
Despite the fact that the conditions were not favourable for complete sailing, Draper and his crew took the challenge and had a blast on the waters. They proved their class with superb sailing under such unsupportive forecast. Meanwhile, the second placed,
Oracle Racing Spithill skippered by James Spithill and his crew failed to stand against the breeze and finished on lower podium places in the final races to clinch the overall second standing spot.
However, overall in the circuit standings, Oracle Racing Spithill is on top with 67 points and Luna Rossa Piranha are on ninth position with 19 points. They still have a long way to go and need to pull up their socks if they want to replace Oracle Racing
Spithill on the top podium overall.
