Lunch in Oxford street?

I'm trying to find a decent place to have lunch in Oxford Street, London. Or somewhere near by. Any personal recommendations?

No restaurant is going to set up in Oxford Street other than the standard high turnover sandwich shops and chains - the rents are prohibitive. Try one of the store resturants. Last time I went in Selfridge's was riddled with franchise cafes. Try John Lewis's - I don't know from experience but they are usually pretty sound.

If you move away from Oxford Street you could get anything depending on what sort of lunch you want and how far you are prepared to travel. There are lots of guides to London, from the "Good Food Guide" downwards that will make recommendations.

Personally, when I am in London (often) I usually go to Pret a Manger for a lunchtime sandwich and then have a good meal in the evening.

Depends which part of Oxford Street you're on and what you fancy eating.

I would recommend the following:

Cafe Uno near Oxford Circus Station (Italian)

Near Bond Street Station (behind Selfridges) you have Wagamama's (Japanese), Zizzi's (Italian), Busaba Eathai (Thai) on store street.

Personally I wouldn't have lunch in Oxford street, as it is dirty and too noisy.  It also depends how much money you want to spend.  If you want to go really upmarket then head for Fortnum and Masons (Green Park tube station, turn right at entrance.)  Otherwise head for the back streets, where you will find lots of nice little patisseries and cafes.  They are of average London prices and have a wide and varied menu.  Soho also has some nice cafes, but they can get slightly overcrowded.  Your best bet is to just look around and find one that suits.  Bon apetite!

Depends how much yu want to spend. Selfridges is apparenlt pretty good, but I've only looked at the prices and gone "eeek!" and never actually tried it.

If you feel cheapskate (like I normally do) - Debenhams does standard lunchtime meals, lasagne and things with chips. It's OK.

There's a couple of nice places down the streets that lead off Oxford street - try the road the goes down by the Body Shop for a variety of restaurants.
