can you afford lunch or luncheon?

there is a difference.

lunch was originally intended to be a reason for the working class to stop work to enjoy a few glasses of pear cider.

the upper class considered luncheon as an opportunity to have a real feast, which they could afford

whereas the working class had to work hard before they could afford to sit down and eat.

after hundreds of years, there is still a lunch and luncheon class.

the luncheon class can eat without their eye on the clock

but the lunch class eat with one eye on their plate and one on the clock.
