  1. probably not lung cancer, especially if you've only been smoking for a year. (please stop =P) but there is no harm in checking it out. takeyourself to the doctor and express your concern to him/her. Lots of people have blood in their flem, especially inthe morning after sleeping. This is because it is normal to have a few cuts/scratches/ruptured blood vesels in your nose and or throat. think about it, you inhale some pretty funky things sometimes. sometimes you sneeze and the pressure from a sneeze alone is enough to kill braincells =P so it's possibly that mid sneeze you ruptured a tiny vesel in you nose, same goes for coughs. also, sometimes when you eat rough or pointy foods like... nacho chips, if you havent chewed your food well enough the larger peices can cut or scrape your throat on the way down. So how does it get in your flem? welll your nasal cavity (sometimes during sleep mucus from your nasal cavity can flow downwards with the help of gravity to your throat) and your throat both have mucus linings to catch any particles that should not be there. underneath the mucus are tiny little hairs called cilia that help move the mucus and particles to a specific area near the back of the throat so that they can be easily coughed out. (the cilia do the same in the nose so that they can be sneezed out)  so thats how the blood gets into your flem. its quite normal.

when you should be concerned is when you are coughing up straight blood with no mucus. this indicates the the blood has not gotten a chance to mix with the mucus, meaning it hasnt really been in the throat. so this means it is coming straight from the lungs and up the wind pipe.  If you start coughing up straight blood go to the emergency room right away.

mucus blood can wait. if you really think it is excessive you can make an apointment with the doctor and get him or her to check you out. maybe you have a little problem with the lining (fragile, too thin?) of your nasal passages/throat/trachea? even so, i think you're aafe to wait for the appointment. no need to panic on  this one.

  2. You don't say where you live. I think you should see a doctor and check this out as soon as possible. You might need to have a tuberculosis test. The smoking won't help. You should pack it up now.

  3. There are many types of lung cancer. For you the best option is to review the signs or symptoms of lung cancer and see which ones you have. If you have anymore symptoms then it is possible. Use the website i use for lung cancer related questions (provided below)

  4. Not really lung cancer, but you have to be concerned that something may be ruptured in the esophagus, larynx or around the trachea. But, and I'm not saying you do, if you've been coughing often with blood in your spitum, better get checked for tuberculosis.

  5. I get this every once in a while, I even went to the doctors for it. Apparently the tissue in my nose is thin and cracks and bleeds during my sleep occasionally and the blood goes down my throat and forms in a huge clump. I'm also a smoker too, not if that helps or not lol.
