Luol Deng says he does not need surgery on left wrist – NBA News
Chicago Bulls star forward Luol Deng has indicated that he may not go for surgery on his left wrist before reporting back to Chicago for duty with the Bulls as they prepare for the upcoming season.
The news will come as a relief to Bulls fans as well as management, who were worried that Deng might aggravate his injury during the summer and require surgery, forcing him to miss the first few months of the upcoming season.
Deng is currently in England, where his team Great Britain was ousted in the first round after a 1-4 record. Britain got a consolatory victory in their final game of the first round, a 90-58 win over China.
Deng seemed to cope up well with the lingering injury during the competition and now says he will wait and see if the wrist gives him any trouble before he decides on whether he will undergo the surgery or not.
"I'm still discussing it, but I feel like I don't need it. If it was one of those injuries that's getting worse and worse and worse then I would do it. But I've been talking to my doctor who did the first surgery (on a torn ligament
in his right wrist in '04), and I've been getting a lot of feedback from her. We are just taking time and if I feel like all of a sudden it's bothering me that much then we will get it. But it hasn't got to that yet."
Deng played significant minutes for the British side during the Olympics competition, and was their most valuable player of the tournament. He averaged 34.6 minutes per game, although he played only 24 minutes in the game against
China.
Despite playing such extended minutes, Deng did not once show any signs of irritation in his wrist, nor did his play seem affected by any kind of injury whatsoever.
Deng did admit that the wrist does cause him pain sometimes, and he is still keeping the option of surgery open. He will wait and analyze his condition before making a final call, which could have consequences for the Bulls bid
to open their 2012-2013 campaign on a high note.
