Luol Deng to meet with Bulls General Manager Gar Forman and Coach Tom Thibodeau next week – NBA News
The Chicago Bulls forward Luol Deng has made his intentions clear about the Summer Olympics in London this year. The British born basketball player says he will definitely be representing his home country of
the United Kingdom at this year’s games, even though he has a torn ligament in his left wrist.
The Bulls General Manager Gar Forman and coach Tom Thibodeau however want to talk with him before he makes his final decision.
"We're going to sit down with Luol sometime in the next week. Obviously, the season ended, and we've had Derrick (Rose) and his (knee surgery) over the weekend. Our biggest concern for Luol -- and I know the
Bulls' fans concern and Luol's concern -- is his health" said Forman on Tuesday.
Deng and the Bulls management are hoping that the player does not require surgery in his left wrist to fix the tear. If he does and he still wants to go and participate in the Olympics, Deng will most probably
miss the first two months of action next season and would require a three to four month rest and rehabilitation period.
Deng is very excited about playing in the Summer Games and had this to say after the game 6 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.
“I just know I’ve got the Olympics ahead of me. The fact that it’s in my hometown that I grew up in a country that gave me opportunity to even be here, I’m looking forward to it."
Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau is proud of the effort that his forward put into the season, despite facing injuries. He says he will now sit down with the star forward and try to come up with a plan for the next few
months. Deng is likely to make the trip to the Olympics and it will remain to be seen after the games finish whether he requires surgery or not.
If he does, he will miss out the first few months of the next season. Bulls guard Derrick Rose has already been sidelined for 8 to 12 months after a surgery on his knee to repair a torn ACL. With Deng and Rose
both out of the squad early next season, Thibodeau will have a lot of work to do in the summer to restructure his lineup and game strategy till the time the stars return.
Deng suffered his wrist injury on January 21st, but decided to play the remainder of the season. And what a season it has been, fighting injuries to still finish with the best record in the league.
The Bulls metal was tested this season, and they came out on top.
"I look back at it and I’m glad I did it" said Deng
