Lusiad to make the most out of the third chance at Fairyhouse in the Multiple Sclerosis Charity Sweepstakes on 10th April
The Multiple Sclerosis Charity Sweepstakes are to be held over two miles at Fairyhouse on Tuesday, 10th April. The race has attracted a lineup of eleven four-year and older thoroughbreds who are to compete today.
Not all among the eleven contesting have raced at Fairyhouse before and neither is any of them exceptionally successful ever since the new season took off.
Lusiad, Luso’s ten-year-old bay gelding out of mare Black Dale, has already raced five times during the new season and the only respectable outcome that surfaced was in the seasonal debut. The remaining races were dreadful failures with the most recent leading
to Lusiad being pulled up from the race.
He cracked into the new season on 11th January in the Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Chase at Fairyhouse over two miles and five and a half furlong. The race was won by Profit Margin who was riding with N. Fox and the two led the runner up by
three and a half length.
Settling into the third spot was the 6/1 favourite of the race, Sumkindasuprstar.
Thus his first experience of the season was at Fairyhouse and it did not turn out to be disappointing rather was a satisfactory performance.
Owing to the delivery on 11th January, he was entered as the 3/1 favourite in the Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Chase on 1st February at Down Royal over two miles and four furlongs. Not being able to hold stead fast with the performance
that he displayed previously, Lusiad ended seventh on the field of ten.
The race was won by Code Of The West while the runner up was Vardas Supreme.
The next two starts were losses too and the fifth outing was yet again at Fairyhouse. He was pulled up in the Comfybed Novice Handicap Chase on 9th April over two miles and six and a half furlong.
The title was taken away by Caduceus who was later joined by Talab.
Today he is to race the sixth start of the season with a third time at Fairyhouse. He has scored second there already and did not get a chance to actually race when he was there for a second time. He has the experience and potential to claim the challenge
that awaits him today.
