http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 Enschede for demanding a mammoth amount for him to leave this summer.
The 21-year-old has been chased by several top European clubs including Liverpool, Newcastle United and Borussia Monchengladbach with the Bundesliga outfit said to be his preferred destination.
However, the Tukkers management have thus far shown reluctance to let go of their prolific striker, whose contract at De Grolsch Veste runs until the summer of 2014.
Monchengladbach have reportedly tabled a bid of 12 million Euros to acquire the youngster’s services. However, the Enschede giants have turned down their offer with the club’s president, Joop Munsterman, insisting that interested clubs should make an offer
in the region of 20 million Euros if they are to land the Dutch hit-man’s signature before the 2012/13 season kicks-off.
De Jong was clearly surprised with his side’s intentions, and insists that the German club made the offer after holding successful talks with his agent and the Tukkers.
“I fell off my chair when I heard Joop Munsterman. That amount is in complete contradiction with the conversation that took place between Twente and Borussia Monchengladbach, and with my father George and agent Louis Laros”, the Dutchman was quoted as saying
to De Telegraaf.
The technically gifted striker, who joined the Enschede giants in the summer of 2009 after making 14 Eredivisie appearances for De Graafschap, went on to insist that he is even willing to drop his entitlement to 20 percent of the transfer fee in order to
complete his move.
“I was amazed to hear this. FC Twente, my agent Louis Laros, and Borussia Monchengladbach indicated that a transfer fee of 12 million Euros polus two million Euros in bonuses, would do, if I agreed to drop my contracted right to 20 percent of the transfer
fee. But for the club, this is no longer sufficient for them to agree to a transfer”, De Jong concluded.
Following the Dutch international’s recent comments, it seems highly unlikely that he would be donning the jersey of FC Twente in the 2012/13 campaign.
