Luxembourg announced three more signings
The Luxembourg pro cycling project, which remarkably topped the list of the highest-ranked cycling teams released by the UCI, has announced three more riders. Brice Feillu, Stefan Denifl and Will Clarke have been confirmed for the new Luxembourg-based team
of Andy and Frank Schleck.
“We have really big expectations for these riders,” said team manager Kim Andersen.
Brice Feillu achieved global recognition with his solo victory in stage seven of the 2009 Tour de France, a summit finish on the Andorra Arcalis. The 25-year-old Frenchman will be making the move from Vacansoleil, a team which was not invited to any of the
Grand Tours last year. With the Luxembourg team, he will have the chance to replicate his 2009 form.
“Brice has already proved himself to be an exceptional climber, and those types of riders are hard to find,” he said. “I think we can help him become an even better racer for the big climbs in the Grand Tours, and he is strong enough to make many invaluable
contributions to the team’s Grand Tour ambitions.”
Denifl rode with the Cervélo Test Team in 2010. The 23-year-old Austrian cyclist has already been riding at the professional level for five years and finished seventh at this year’s Tour of Austria.
“I like the fact that it is a brand new team and I, as a young rider, can grow up along with the team in the next years,” said Denifl. “I have started off well, but I still have to learn and improve myself.”
The 25-year-old Clarke finished on the podium this year at the Tour of Taiwan and finished fourth at the Australian national time-trial championships before taking on the spring Classics in Belgium.
“Will is a big Aussie with a huge engine,” said Andersen. “He caught my eye racing in Belgium this spring, winning kermesse races left and right. That’s no easy feat, so we will obviously look to develop his skills for the Classics.”
The full roster has not yet been made public.
