Luxembourg team names Classics squad
The title sponsor for the Luxembourg cycling project still has not been announced, but three strong Classics specialists have been named.
Maxime Monfort is moving from American team HTC-Columbia, Wouter Weylandt will be transferring from Belgian team Quick Step, and Dominic Klemme will be following Andy and Frank Schleck, among others, in the transfer from Danish team
Saxo Bank.
"I have worked with many of the team members in the past years, and believe that I will be able to develop myself further within its structure," said Klemme. "Next season, I definitely want to get some results in the Classics; I'm really looking forward
to the opportunity and am very lucky to be a part of this team."
23-year-old Klemme helped Fabian Cancellara to secure his victory in the Paris-Roubaix and team manager Brian Nygaard has said he expects that the rider is on the verge of coming to the next level of sportsmanship. Monfort is an all-rounder
and Weylandt is fast, having supported Tom Boonen and won stages in the Giro d’Italia and the Vuelta a Espana this season.
"By signing Wouter, I think we have pulled off a real coup," said team owner Bjarne Riis. "He is young, but won a stage each in the Giro and Vuelta this year, and both stages were brutal days, not at all tailor-made for a sprinter. He can definitely grow
into an even better rider for the spring classics."
While the team’s title sponsor has not yet been announced, financial backing from Mercedes and bicycle-maker Trek has been confirmed. Riis recently sent a twitter message, which linked to the location of the team’s future website,
which is imprinted with "Leopard True Racing – Coming Soon." No official confirmation of this name or any primary sponsor has been made.
