The Women Singles shuttler Lydia Li Ya Cheah of Malaysia cleared the qualification round and surged into the main round of Badminton Asia Championships on April 17, 2012.

Lydia opened her marathon against Kwan Yi Mong and bagged her first victory in just two games by registering 21-15 and 21-10 score on the board.
The Hong Kong shuttler could not match her rival’s skills and surrendered after a 24-minute resistance.
In opening game of the match, Yi Mong gained quick points in the start by ticking a 4-1 margin in the score log. She gave tough time in first half of the set and stayed equal with a 7-7 score position.
Though, the Malaysian accelerated her pace and clinched six consecutive points to reach 13-7 but Yi Mong bounced back and levelled the score at 13-13.

Second set of the match turned in to a one-sided tussle as Lydia sealed a straight-set victory with scoreboard flashing 21-10 in her favour.
This win took her into the second stage of the qualifying round where she edged the Taipei shuttler Pei Hsin after an epic 47-minute tussle.
The Malaysian campaigner did not have a perfect start but she managed to hit the mark when it mattered and passed this qualification test with favourable figures of 19-21, 21-17 and 21-17.
Opening game of the match was a curtain raiser to their splendid show of skills as both players snapped each other’s heels and kept the spectators glued to their chairs until the last moment.
