Lydia Ko Beats Jaye Marie Green 3 and 1 in the US Women’s Amateur
The final of the US Women’s Amateur is over with Lydia Ko wining the trophy. She beat the American player Jaye Marie Green with a score of 3 and 1.
Lydia Ko is the world’s number one amateur player and this win is another demonstration of her excellent golf skills. She has won all three USGA amateur tournaments and she is looking forward to the next amateur event to improve her record.
This match appeared to be one sided with Ko dominating the entire field. Green did put up a good fight but she was easily trounced by the superior skills of the New Zealand’s finest amateur player.
The match started on a positive note for both the players, with the first hole being declared a draw. This started a fierce competition that proved to be the most entertaining round of golf in the entire tournament.
Ko won many of the holes despite Green’s best efforts. The best Green could do was to score pars on each hole.
The final 18 holes proved to an interesting match. The first five holes were a draw as both the played scored pars. The next three holes, sixth, seventh and eighth went to Ko, who scored a stroke less on each of them.
Green was very grateful for the support of the spectators who cheered her on every hole. Commenting on this, she said, “Oh my gosh, I don't want this day to end. I've never had that people be so supportive. Lydia has such a great attitude, in that she laughs
at everything and she's fun to play with”.
Ko was also excited about her win. She said, “I've won a medal at each of the three USGA tournaments I played in (this summer), so it's pretty good”.
The US Women’s Amateur is an important event on the international amateur golf calendar. Ko has once again proved that despite everything, she is the best amateur player in the world.
She has no plans of turning pro and ending a highly decorated amateur career. Ko plans to continue playing amateur golf while she attends a college.
